Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – Outpatient

About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) works in an outpatient setting, providing direct patient care under the supervision of licensed providers or RNs. Duties include taking vital signs, administering medications, performing diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, and maintaining equipment and supplies.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct ambulatory intake: interview patients, record vital signs, medical history, and document findings in the EMR.
• Assist physicians during exams and procedures, prepare exam rooms, and provide patient education.
• Perform lab tests, administer vaccines and injections, and ensure exam room cleanliness and supply readiness.
• Handle front‑office tasks such as registration, scheduling, insurance authorizations, and payment collection.
• Answer triage calls, document patient interactions, and communicate with providers as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED with a current Certified Medical Assistant credential (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, or MedCA).
• Current BLS certification.
• Minimum one year of outpatient experience, preferably in a relevant specialty.
• Valid driver’s license if assigned to virtual care or wellness services.

Required skills

• Phlebotomy and specimen collection.
