About the role
Xometry is seeking an experienced Lead Sourcing Engineer to drive technical evaluation of complex parts and guide a team of Sourcing Engineers. The role bridges customer requirements with manufacturing capabilities across a digital marketplace.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical evaluation of complex parts, assemblies and projects, establishing standards for complexity assessment.
- Review drawings, specifications and documentation to identify manufacturing risks, tolerances, materials and process needs.
- Guide the sourcing team in selecting appropriate manufacturing processes, capabilities and providers for high‑complexity projects.
- Own the technical tagging framework, defining, maintaining and auditing tags for accurate categorisation.
- Act as final technical reviewer for high‑value quotations, identifying gaps and driving resolution.
- Participate in client and provider meetings to clarify requirements, propose DFM alternatives and resolve technical challenges.
- Coach, mentor and develop Sourcing Engineers, supporting onboarding and workload prioritisation.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, quality and operations to improve sourcing and quotation workflows.
Required profile
- Higher technical education in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years in a manufacturing environment working with complex parts or assemblies.
- Proven experience in sourcing engineering, technical procurement or supplier engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (B2 or higher).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, able to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced setting.
Required skills
- CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, casting, 3D printing, finishing processes.
- Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and technical drawing interpretation.
- Materials knowledge and quality requirements.
- Experience with ERP/quoting platforms and CAD viewers.
- Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, IATF 16949.
- Data‑driven evaluation and automation tools.
