Staff Engineer (US Payroll)

About the role

Deel is seeking a Staff Engineer to serve as the primary technical advisor for its US Payroll platform. In this senior role you will guide the strategic evolution of a core engine that powers payroll for small‑business customers and is being scaled to serve large enterprise clients and the broader EOR/PEO community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across the engineering organization, partnering closely with the Director of Engineering.
• Shape architecture, make critical technical decisions, and drive engineering excellence for the US Payroll vertical.
• Design and implement large‑scale re‑architectures and migrations to support increased throughput and complexity.
• Mentor and influence engineering teams to ensure high‑quality, scalable solutions.
• Collaborate with product, compliance, and operations teams to align technical direction with business goals.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading technical initiatives for complex, high‑volume platforms.
• Strong track record of influencing architecture and driving large‑scale system transformations.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with senior leadership and engineering peers.
