Staff Engineer – US Payroll

About the role

Deel is looking for a Staff Engineer to lead the technical evolution of its US Payroll platform. You will partner with the Director of Engineering to shape architecture, drive strategic migrations, and ensure the system can scale to serve enterprise‑level customers and the broader EOR/PEO community.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across the engineering organization for the US Payroll vertical.
• Design and implement architectural changes that increase throughput and reduce complexity.
• Guide migrations and re‑architectures to support large‑scale enterprise workloads.
• Collaborate with product, reliability, and security teams to deliver a robust, compliant payroll solution.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence throughout the team.

• Proven experience leading large‑scale, high‑impact engineering initiatives.
• Strong ability to influence technical direction and make strategic decisions.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
