About the role
The State of Georgia is seeking an Assistant Public Defender I to join the Tifton Judicial Circuit Public Defender’s Office. In this entry‑level position you will represent indigent clients in criminal matters throughout all phases of the process.
Key responsibilities
- Provide competent and zealous representation for indigent clients in Superior Court criminal cases.
- Handle all stages of criminal proceedings, including arraignment, pre‑trial hearings, trial preparation, plea negotiations, trial, and sentencing.
- Perform beginning‑level legal work and assist with cases of routine complexity.
- Collaborate with senior staff and perform other related duties as required.
Required profile
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
- License to practice law in the State of Georgia, or eligibility to sit for the Georgia Bar exam and obtain licensure within one year of hiring.
- Member in good standing with the State of Georgia Bar.
- Strong commitment to indigent defense.
