Senior Python Developer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Python Developer to take ownership of core parts of our backend. You will design services from the ground up, make architecture decisions, and deliver features end‑to‑end with product and frontend colleagues. You will receive full context, decide how things are built, and see the impact directly.

Key responsibilities

• Own the design, development, and operation of backend services and APIs in Python.
• Translate product requirements into technical designs, realistic plans, and trade‑off decisions.
• Lead architecture discussions and define engineering standards and best practices.
• Design database schemas and optimise queries and indexes for PostgreSQL.
• Build and scale background jobs, data pipelines, and automation workflows using Celery, message brokers, and asyncio.
• Integrate third‑party services, payment providers, external APIs, and LLM‑based features.
• Maintain performant, secure, and observable production systems and lead root‑cause analysis.
• Review code and mentor colleagues with constructive feedback.
• Document systems and decisions to share knowledge across the team.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional experience building and running production systems in Python.
• Deep hands‑on expertise with Django or FastAPI (Flask is a plus).
• Strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills, including query optimisation, indexing, and schema design at scale.
• Proven experience designing and maintaining REST APIs used by real products.
• Solid experience with asynchronous processing: asyncio, Celery, or message queues.
• Production experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and at least one major cloud platform (AWS or GCP).
• Strong testing discipline with pytest, type checking, and linting.
• Track record of owning services end‑to‑end, from design through deployment, monitoring, and incident handling.
• Clear written and spoken English and a self‑directed remote working style.
