Staff Engineer – US Payroll Platform

About the role

Deel is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the technical evolution of its US Payroll platform. In this senior role you will partner with the Director of Engineering to define architecture, drive large‑scale migrations and ensure the system can scale from SMB customers to enterprise‑level workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and act as the primary advisor for the US Payroll engine.
• Design and implement architectural changes to support high‑throughput, enterprise‑grade performance.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define road‑maps, set technical standards and ensure engineering excellence.
• Guide migrations and re‑architectures of critical services while maintaining reliability for existing customers.
• Mentor engineering teams and promote best practices across the organization.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading complex, high‑scale backend systems.
• Strong track record of making architectural decisions and delivering large‑scale migrations.
• Ability to work closely with senior leadership and influence technical direction.
