Senior System Engineer – Virtualization

About the role

Social Discovery Group (SDG) is seeking a Senior System Engineer with deep expertise in virtualization to join its globally distributed, remote team. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving enterprise‑grade virtualized environments that power our social entertainment platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage VMware and Microsoft Hyper‑V platforms across both hyper‑converged (HCI) and traditional SAN‑based infrastructures.
• Ensure availability, performance, scalability, security, and reliability of virtualized workloads through proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and incident response.
• Plan and execute upgrades, migrations, patching, and lifecycle management, integrating virtualization with cloud and hybrid services.
• Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, Network, L2 Support, and Remote Hands teams to resolve complex production issues and conduct root‑cause analysis.
• Administer enterprise storage, SAN, backup, and disaster‑recovery solutions, applying best practices for VMware vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, Hyper‑V, and SCVMM.
• Drive automation and continuous improvement by evaluating environments, scripting optimizations, and maintaining technical documentation.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with VMware technologies (ESXi, vCenter, vSphere, vSAN) at scale.
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Hyper‑V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager.
• Solid understanding of virtual networking concepts (vSwitches, Distributed Switches, VLANs, NIC teaming, segmentation).
• Proven experience with SAN architectures and storage protocols such as iSCSI, Fibre Channel, and FCoE.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote, globally distributed environment.
