Senior Fire Protection Engineer – Data Center

About the role

Olsson is seeking a remote Senior Fire Protection Engineer to lead fire protection design for mission‑critical facilities such as hyperscale data centers and secure government sites. You will provide technical leadership, ensure compliance with rigorous codes, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and execution of fire protection systems for secure and mission‑critical facilities.
• Develop and review fire suppression, alarm, and life‑safety system designs to meet client and code requirements (NFPA, IBC, IFC, UFCs, etc.).
• Serve as the technical expert and client liaison for fire protection scopes on data‑center and secure‑facility projects.
• Coordinate across disciplines to ensure fully integrated system design.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal knowledge‑sharing.
• Support proposal development and contribute to project scope and scheduling.
• Travel to project sites or Olsson offices as needed (approximately 15–25%).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) preferred.
• 8+ years of experience in fire protection engineering, preferably with hyperscale data centers, government, or other secure facilities.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of NFPA standards, International Building Code (IBC), International Fire Code (IFC) and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFCs).
• Proficiency with fire‑protection design and modeling tools such as REVIT, AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD, or similar.
