Senior Cloud Data Engineer – Remote

About the role

Social Discovery Group is seeking a Senior Cloud Data Engineer to lead the migration of its data products from on‑premise SQL Server to a modern cloud platform. You will work remotely with a global team, shaping the data architecture that powers socially‑focused entertainment applications.

Key responsibilities

• Migrate legacy MS SQL Server workloads to a cloud data platform (GCP or equivalent).
• Analyse existing SQL, ETL processes and business logic, then redesign them for the target architecture.
• Build and maintain scalable batch pipelines and analytical data models.
• Validate migrated data, investigate discrepancies and ensure data quality.
• Collaborate with analysts and business stakeholders to clarify requirements.
• Contribute to platform reliability, performance, cost optimisation and engineering best practices.
• Develop AI‑assisted automation for data‑engineering workflows, including reusable specifications and quality controls.

Required profile

• Strong data‑engineering background with advanced SQL and relational database expertise.
• Hands‑on experience with the GCP data stack (or comparable cloud services) such as BigQuery, Cloud Composer and Cloud Storage.
• Proven track record building production ETL/ELT pipelines and analytical models.
• Experience deploying, configuring and operating managed cloud data services, including workflow orchestration and serverless compute.
• Proficient in Python (or another general‑purpose language) for data‑engineering and automation tasks.
• Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts: IAM, networking, monitoring, CI/CD and infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Experience working with legacy data warehouses and complex business logic.
• Fluent Russian language skills.
