Safety Manager – Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

About the role

Moss is seeking a Safety Manager to lead all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) functions on a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) construction site. You will partner with operations, electrical, and commissioning teams to ensure safe execution of high‑risk work while maintaining compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all EHS activities on the assigned BESS project site, providing direction to safety coordinators and professionals.
• Implement and enforce the Site‑Specific Safety Plan (SSSP), standard operating procedures, and BESS Standard Work Instructions.
• Coordinate safety controls for BESS installation, commissioning, interconnection, testing, and energization.
• Support electrical safety requirements, including NFPA 70E, lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO), barricading, and energy isolation.
• Conduct routine field audits, inspections, and observations to verify control effectiveness.
• Maintain safety documentation, prepare for internal and client audits, and lead emergency response planning.
• Manage incident reporting, investigations, root‑cause analysis, and corrective‑action implementation.
• Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators to identify trends and proactively address risks.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading EHS functions on construction or BESS projects.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, state, and local safety regulations.
• Familiarity with NFPA 70E, LOTO procedures, and electrical safety standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills for risk assessment and incident investigation.
