Director, IT Portfolio & Program Management

About the role

Akumin is seeking a Director to lead enterprise‑wide IT portfolio governance and serve as the operational PMO lead for its Fixed‑Site imaging business, the largest segment of its IT delivery portfolio. This hybrid leadership position blends strategic portfolio stewardship with hands‑on program delivery in a fast‑paced, matrixed healthcare IT environment.

Key responsibilities

• Own and mature the enterprise IT intake, governance, and prioritization process across all business units.
• Design and facilitate portfolio steering committees and gate reviews, aligning demand with enterprise OKRs and capacity.
• Maintain a consolidated portfolio view for executive and Board reporting.
• Partner with IT leadership and finance on capital planning, business case development, and ROI tracking.
• Establish and evolve portfolio management standards, templates, processes, and tooling (PPM platforms, roadmap/Gantt tools, OKR frameworks).
• Lead the PMO for Fixed‑Site IT, managing a portfolio of projects such as RIS/PACS initiatives, patient portal expansion, USCDI interoperability, and infrastructure delivery.
• Apply Agile, hybrid, and traditional project management methods as appropriate, running sprint/PI ceremonies for Agile teams.
• Manage scope, schedule, budget, risk, and stakeholder communication; escalate portfolio‑level risks and resource conflicts.
• Build and maintain program dashboards and status reporting for Fixed‑Site operations, IT, and clinical leadership.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading enterprise‑wide IT portfolio governance and PMO functions.
• Demonstrated ability to work with vendor partners and manage delivery in a healthcare IT setting.
• Strong collaboration skills with IT, Operations, Clinical, and Patient Services leadership.
• Experience driving prioritization trade‑off discussions using data‑driven criteria.
