Crew Operations Manager

About the role

Helios Nautical Crewing is seeking an experienced Crew Operations Manager to lead daily crewing activities, coordinate crew changes, and oversee the recruitment and retention of qualified seafarers. The role ensures seamless vessel manning while maintaining compliance with international maritime regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate day‑to‑day crewing operations and crew change planning.
• Oversee the full recruitment cycle, from sourcing to selection, for seafarers.
• Develop and maintain a qualified pool of seafarers, ensuring all certificates, licenses, medicals, visas and employment documents are verified on time.
• Prepare long‑term crew planning, vessel manning schedules, and operational reports, including KPIs and crew statistics.
• Coordinate communication with shipowners, masters, agents, training centres and seafarers.
• Ensure compliance with MLC 2006, STCW, flag‑state and company requirements.
• Resolve operational crewing issues to guarantee uninterrupted vessel operations.
• Support performance evaluations, promotions, retention strategies and crew replacements.
• Monitor training requirements and certification validity.
• Assist with audits, inspections and client reviews related to crew management.
• Lead internal and client meetings concerning assigned crewing operations.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in crewing or crew management within the maritime industry.
• Strong knowledge of MLC 2006 and STCW regulations.
• Excellent command of English.
• Strong organizational, communication, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Ability to manage a team and coordinate multiple tasks with high attention to detail.
