Applied AI Engineer

About the role

Block Labs is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to join its Intelligence team. You will be responsible for building production‑grade AI agents that interact with customers and internal systems, turning natural‑language business questions into governed SQL queries and delivering real‑time, auditable decisions that move money.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain a Slack‑native analyst agent that translates business queries into validated, governed SQL against the analytical warehouse.
• Build and own AI agents that answer executive P&L questions, post daily health briefings, and provide data‑backed root‑cause analysis.
• Develop and integrate machine‑learning and predictive‑modeling components that feed the decision engine.
• Create dashboards and monitoring surfaces that allow business stakeholders to steer and audit AI‑driven decisions.
• Ensure all agents operate within a formal decision register, with human‑set objectives, budgets, and approval gates.

Required profile

• Strong background in building production‑grade data‑driven applications.
• Experience with AI/ML pipelines and governance frameworks.
• Ability to work autonomously while collaborating closely with product, engineering, and risk teams.
• Comfort with high‑stakes environments where decisions must be reproducible and auditable.
